What is a Motorhome?
A motorhome is a motor vehicle that is designed for personal accommodation. Motorhomes are equipped with one or more permanently attached beds and at least two of the following permanently attached appliances:
- a refrigerator wired into the motorhome’s electrical system
- a stove
- a toilet and washing facility
A motorhome may be a manufactured unit or a vehicle such as a bus or van that has been converted to a motorhome.

How to Register your Motorhome
To register your motorhome, visit your local motor licence issuer with your Vehicle Renewal notice.
Your motor licence issuer will ask you to provide the following information:
- the gross vehicle weight (GVW) of your motorhome
- the value of your motorhome
First time registering a motorhome
If it is your first time registering the motorhome, your motor licence issuer will also require the following:
- the bill of sale
- an Inspection Certificate, if the vehicle was a total loss or was purchased outside of Saskatchewan
- a Vehicle Import form from Canada Customs, if the vehicle was purchased outside of Canada
How to Determine the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of your Motorhome
The GVW of a motorhome depends on the following:
- motorhome model
- vehicle year
- options included
- cargo carried
If your motorhome will be used to tow a trailer or another vehicle, include the weight of the units towed when you’re calculating the GVW.
Loaded weights can vary significantly based on options and cargo, so be sure to weigh your motorhome fully loaded to make sure you are paying the correct registration fee.
To help determine your motorhome’s GVW, check the manufacturer’s information plate or decal for the vehicle’s empty or “tare” weight (located inside the unit). Or, select the style and length of your motorhome from the guide below and make note of the weight range:
Class A Style
| Length in Feet |

Motorhomes can be registered in Class LV or in Class PV, depending on their GVW:
- Motorhomes with a GVW of 15,000 kg and less are registered in Class LV.
- Motorhomes with a GVW of 15,001 kg and greater are registered in Class PV.

How to Determine the Value of your Motorhome
To determine the fair market value (actual cash value) of your motorhome, consider the following factors:
- make
- model
- year
- mileage
- condition
Be sure to include PST and GST when determining your motorhome’s value. Your local motorhome dealer may be able to give you some guidance on the market value of your motorhome.
In the Event of a Total Loss
If you incur damages to your motorhome and it becomes a total loss, you will receive the fair market value up to a maximum of value you declare at registration. For example:
- If you declare a value of $20,000, but the actual cash value is $15,000, you would be paid $15,000 (less your deductible) for a total loss.
- If you declare a value of $20,000, but the actual cash value is $24,000, you would be paid $20,000 (less your deductible) for a total loss.
Class LV and PV Insurance Premiums
Class LV and PV insurance premiums apply to all vehicles registered in Class LV and PV, which includes motorhomes as well as buses and vans that are used as motorhomes.
Your insurance premium is based on the value you declare for your motorhome at the time of registration. To determine your premium, find your motorhome’s value on the guide below:

How to Determine your Safe Driver Recognition Discount
Your Safe Driver Recognition discount can be found on the front of the Vehicle Renewal notice, under the heading ‘Recognition Program’.
You can also find out your Safe Driver Recognition discount by calling our Customer Service Center at 1-800-667-9868.
Calculating your Motorhome Fees
If you would like to calculate the cost of registering and insuring your motorhome, follow the steps below:
- Determine your gross vehicle weight (GVW) from the Motorhome GVW guide.
- For example, a Class C Style motorhome that is 25 to 31 feet long averages in weight from 4,762 kg to 6,373 kg. If your motorhome is 28 feet long, estimate a figure within that weight range, such as 6,000 kg.
- Find your registration fee on the Registration fee guide.
- For example, the registration fee for a motorhome with a GVW of 6,000 kg is $112.
- Find your insurance premium on the Insurance premium guide.
- For example, if your motorhome is valued at $25,000, your insurance premium would be $358.
- Deduct your Safe Driver Recognition discount (if applicable) from the insurance premium (not from the registration fee).
- For example, if your Safe Driver Recognition discount is 12 per cent and your insurance premium is $358, you would deduct $43 ($358 x .12 = $42.96)
- If you are renting out your motorhome (U-Drive), add 15 per cent to the insurance premium.
- For example, if your insurance premium is $358, you would add $54 ($358 x .15 = $53.70)
