Class F
What is a farm plate?
Because vehicles used for farm purposes tend to travel fewer kilometres
and are operated on roads where there's less traffic and
fewer collisions, Saskatchewan’s farm class licence plates provide
lower registration fees and insurance premiums for most farm trucks.
Farm plates can be displayed on trucks, trailers and large vans
(larger than the "one ton" models).
How do I qualify for a farm plate?
A farmer is eligible for farm plates in three instances:
1. If they're an active farmer or active
farm corporation where:
- They control and are responsible for the operation of a farm;
and
- They own, lease or rent the land that they farm; and
- They make an appreciable contribution to the growth and maturity
of primary farm products. (i.e. They themselves raise or grow
farm products, and from their nurturing efforts, they expect
to eventually earn a profit.)
2. If they're a farmer who is winding down their
farming operation
3. If they're an active farmer in a diversification
process.
A person isn't eligible for a farm plate if:
- They've retired from farming or they have rented out their
land to another party for the purpose of farming; or
- They buy primary farm products solely for
the purpose of resale; or
- They have a farming operation that doesn't meet the minimum
size criteria.
