SGI rewards 10 new drivers

Ten new drivers have learned it pays to drive safely after receiving $1,000 each from SGI. The cheques were a reward for completing the Graduated Driver’s Licensing (GDL) program without any at-fault collisions, traffic convictions or suspensions.

“SGI is pleased to reward safe driving habits among our province’s new drivers,” says Phyllis Glowatsky, SGI’s Manager of Driver Programs. “With this added incentive, it is our hope that new drivers will recognize that it pays to develop safe driving habits right from the start.”

The 2007 winners are:

  • Braden Blais, Prince Albert
  • Tyler Spink, Saskatoon
  • Ryan Stanley, Chitek Lake Reserve
  • Shane Thomas, Kindersley
  • Sheldon Bradley, Gull Lake
  • Kalie Migneault, Regina
  • Amanda Marcenko, Assiniboia
  • Chloe Duncan, Regina
  • Robyn Laycock, Battleford
  • Stephanie Woo, Saskatoon

The 10 winners were randomly chosen from the 4,587 individuals who successfully completed the Graduated Driver’s Licensing program without any at-fault collisions, traffic convictions or suspensions by Aug. 31, 2007.

The Graduated Driver’s Licensing Program was implemented in September 2005 and is designed to improve road safety by exposing new drivers to incremental risks as they gain more experience in the driving environment. The cash prizes were implemented as an added incentive for new drivers to develop safe driving habits.

The incentive will continue for the third year of the GDL program with a cut-off date for the next draw being Aug. 31, 2008.
