Schubert steps down as SGI President and CEO

Crown Corporations Minister Ken Cheveldayoff today accepted the resignation of SGI President and CEO Jon Schubert effective October 31, 2008.

Schubert has accepted a position as President and CEO of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC). ICBC is a provincial Crown corporation established in 1973 to provide universal auto insurance, driver licensing, vehicle registration and licensing to B.C. motorists.

"I thank Jon for his 27 years of service with SGI," Cheveldayoff said. "Under Jon's leadership, SGI has produced strong financial results, diversified risk through growing the business, established clear visions and values and enhanced its focus on customer service. Jon has lead these accomplishments while keeping SGI vehicle rates affordable and among the lowest in Canada. In addition, Jon has made outstanding contributions to our community including his involvement with the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. On a personal level, I will definitely miss having Jon at SGI, but also want to congratulate him and wish him all the best as he takes on this new challenge."

Schubert began his career with SGI in 1976. He has served as President and CEO since 2004.

"You never know in life when opportunity will come your way," Schubert said. "This is a difficult decision for my family and me as Saskatchewan has always been our home. ICBC presented me with an offer that I thought long and hard about, and after much consideration, it is too good a personal opportunity for me to pass up at this stage of my career. I've invested nearly half my life with SGI, working with a number of outstanding people within the corporation and the provincial government over the years. It's a terrific place to work."

A search for a replacement will commence this fall.
