Province provides 20 per cent rebate to “green” vehicle owners

The provincial government is rewarding vehicle owners who ‘go green on the road’ with a 20 per cent rebate from SGI on their 2007 insurance and registration fees for hybrid and fuel-efficient vehicles.

The rebate is part of the Government’s “Go Green” plan, designed to encourage Saskatchewan residents to be more environmentally friendly at home, at work and on the road.

“This green rebate is a great incentive for Saskatchewan people to choose environmentally responsible vehicles and help create a cleaner, healthier environment, which benefits everyone in our province,” Minister of Crown Corporations Ken Cheveldayoff said. “We hope that this rebate program will encourage more people to purchase green vehicles in the years to come.”

This four-year green rebate program applies to all hybrid vehicles, as well as fuel-efficient vehicles identified by the Government of Canada’s ecoAUTO program, for model years 2006 and newer. Both privately-owned and commercial-use vehicles are included.

Approximately 3,400 customers will receive an average rebate of $172 this year. Customers should expect to receive their cheque within the next two weeks.

For more information about the qualifying vehicles under the ecoAUTO program, visit the Transport Canada website at www.tc.gc.ca in the Environment section under the ecoTRANSPORT heading. For more information about the green rebate, visit SGI’s website at www.sgi.sk.ca.
