SGI CANADA Donates Proceeds From Final Charity Classic

The SGI CANADA Charity Classic organizing committee has tallied the proceeds from its 12th and final bonspiel, which took place Oct. 7 – 11 in Regina. A cheque in the amount of $31,000 will be presented to the Saskatchewan chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation.

"Each year since 1993, Saskatchewan residents have made the Charity Classic a Thanksgiving tradition and brought their families out to watch their favourite curlers from around the world compete for thousands of dollars in prize money," said Maynard Sonntag, Minister Responsible for SGI.

"This year was not any different. Their generosity and commitment to supporting community events contributed to the success of the final Charity Classic and the total amount given to the Children’s Wish Foundation."

The Children’s Wish Foundation works with the community to provide children with high-risk, life threatening illnesses the opportunity to realize their most heartfelt wish. Over the past 18 years, the organization has granted 400 wishes to Saskatchewan children.

"A wish is one of the greatest gifts a child diagnosed with a serious and life-threatening disease can receive. It is a dream come true and provides unbelievable happiness, delight and a lasting memory that will always be cherished. The impact these funds will have on future wish children will be outstanding," said Carla Loney-Tindall, Director of The Children's Wish Foundation, Saskatchewan chapter.

Since 1993, the Charity Classic has helped to raise more than $250,000 for Saskatchewan charities, including the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Saskatchewan Head Injury Association, the Children’s Health Foundation, KidSport Saskatchewan, Kids Help Phone and the Canadian Diabetes Association.
