SGI CANADA CHARITY ROAD RACE RAISES FUNDS FOR KIDS HELP PHONE

Today more than 300 runners participated to help ensure kids in Saskatchewan have access to highly trained counsellors 24 hours a day

REGINA, June 1, 2003 - This morning, hundreds of runners along with volunteers from

SGI CANADA and Kids Help Phone got together for the Fourth Annual SGI CANADA Charity Road Race in support of Kids Help Phone. The SGI CANADA Charity Road Race is part of the Timex Road Race series and features a 10K and 5K race along with a 2K family fun walk. This year, the event raised funds for Kids Help Phone, Canada's only national, bilingual, 24-hour, toll-free, confidential and anonymous phone counselling, referral and Internet service for troubled and abused children and youth.

"SGI CANADA is involved in numerous community events that raise money for charity, and the Road Race is an example of SGI's commitment to improving the quality of life for Saskatchewan youth. Thanks to the organizing committee, volunteers and race participants, the Kids Help Phone will be able to continue to provide help to Saskatchewan youth when they need it," said Larry Fogg, President of SGI CANADA.

"In 2002, Kids Help Phone saw an increase of 7% in calls and an increase of 230% in website traffic from children across the country," says Gaylene Ryan-Jeannot. "With SGI CANADA making a such a significant donation and showing their support today, I am confident we will meet our fundraising goal and continue to help the growing number of children in need who turn to us for assistance.

Since 1989, Kids Help Phone has been committed to 'being there for kids' in Saskatchewan. Kids Help Phone is Canada's only 24-hour, toll-free, bilingual and anonymous phone counselling, referral and Internet service for children and youth. Professional counsellors answer approximately 1,000 calls and online questions every day - including approximately 80 from Saskatchewan - from callers dealing with a range of issues.
