SGI Increases Insurance Discount
Safe drivers in Saskatchewan will soon see a bigger discount on
their vehicle insurance under SGI’s Safe Driver Recognition
program.
"Based on affordability, SGI made a commitment to increase
the value of the Safe Driver discount over time," Minister
Responsible for SGI Mark Wartman said. "Effective Jan. 1st,
2004, the maximum discount available will be increased from eight
per cent to nine per cent."
In 2004, close to $25 million will be put back into the pockets
of safe drivers in Saskatchewan through discounts on their vehicle
insurance. About two out of three Saskatchewan vehicle owners qualify
for some level of discount, and 40 per cent of vehicle owners are
eligible for the maximum discount available.
Safe Driver Recognition was introduced on July 1st, 2002 in an
effort to reward safe drivers with a discount on their vehicle insurance,
while ensuring drivers who display risky behaviour pay their share
in financial penalties. By year-end, SGI will have paid out over
$32 million in discounts to safe drivers, helping keep Saskatchewan
auto insurance rates among the lowest in the country.
