SGI Investigation Complete

Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) has completed its investigation of the actions of four employees in relation to the possible disclosure of information to an unauthorized source. All four employees are back at work.

SGI President Larry Fogg says the corporation’s independent review showed most of the information supplied was motor vehicle data which SGI was legally obligated to provide, but the four employees did not follow corporate procedures for providing it. In addition, in very few cases, some claims-related information was shared. Only two of the four employees were authorized to provide claims-related information to assist in the investigation of fraudulent claims. There is no reason to believe that any of the employees received any personal gain.

Corporate processes were not followed in accordance with policy and appropriate disciplinary action has been taken.

“Throughout this review, the corporation has recognized that clarification of procedure and policy in some areas was needed. We take seriously our responsibility to ensure against any improper disclosure of personal information,” said Fogg.

SGI is taking action to strengthen and better communicate to all employees policies regarding the sharing of information to ensure the privacy of customers. The Corporate Code of Ethics and the Information Technology Policy have been revised and strengthened, and the company will maintain signed declarations from all employees that they have read and understood those policies.
