Photo ID Cards Available From SGI

As passenger air travel in Canada commences, some Canadian airlines are now requiring all travellers to provide photo identification before being allowed to board an aircraft.

A photo identification card is available from SGI for all residents of Saskatchewan, regardless of whether or not the individual is a licensed driver.

Drivers or non-drivers can have their photo taken at any of the 450 SGI motor licence issuers throughout Saskatchewan. It currently takes three to five days for an individual to receive their photo ID card in the mail. However, if someone needs emergency service, SGI will process the ID card immediately and arrangements can be made for the individual to pick up the card in Regina or Saskatoon, or it can be sent by courier on the same day.

Individuals need to bring two pieces of ID displaying their name, date of birth and signature to be eligible for the photo identification card. The photo ID card is free of charge for individuals with a valid Saskatchewan driver's licence. Non-drivers and drivers who require same day service may be charged a small fee.

"SGI will do its utmost to accommodate any Saskatchewan resident that requires photo ID for air travel," said Alan Cockman, Vice President of SGI's Auto Fund.

Older photo IDs taken under SGI's previous photo ID program are still being accepted as valid photo identification for air travelling purposes. For more information please contact your local motor licence issuer.
