SADD announces new drinking and driving campaign
Students Against Drinking and Driving (SADD) launched its new drinking and driving awareness campaign in Regina today. The campaign is aimed at reducing deaths and injuries resulting from drinking and driving.
"Drinking and driving is a serious problem on Saskatchewan roads. It's the number one cause of death for people under 35. We've arranged this startling display of 127 body bags today to remind us of the people who have lost their lives in alcohol-related crashes over the last two years. We hope the ads in this campaign will encourage people to not drive after drinking," said Crystal Clarke, President of SADD.
SADD's campaign includes television and radio spots, as well as posters, washroom advertisements, Web ads and billboards.
"This program would not be possible without the generous support we've received from our partner sponsors. The assistance we receive from SGI is especially invaluable. Besides the production costs for this campaign, SGI provides annual funding to our organization. Their sponsorship is what makes SADD's ongoing operation possible," said Clarke.
"I would also like to thank all of our media sponsors for participating in this new drinking and driving awareness campaign. Their participation is what makes it possible for important messages on drinking and driving to reach people all across the province. Together, we are helping to save lives in Saskatchewan."
The campaign operates with the cooperation of media outlets across Saskatchewan that have agreed to promote this campaign at no cost.
Media sponsors include: CHAB - Moose Jaw, CJWW/Hot 93 - Saskatoon, Rawlco Communications province-wide, CJVR - Melfort, CJGX - Yorkton, Global Television - Regina and Saskatoon, CITL/CKSA - Lloydminster, CTV Saskatchewan affiliates, Pattison Outdoor and MediaCom.
The campaign launch coincides with National Impaired Driving Awareness Week, which is March 12-29. Impaired Driving Awareness Week is a week designated annually by SADD to raise awareness of the consequences of impaired driving.
The campaign, which targets drivers of all ages, will run throughout 2001.
