SGI Claims Centres taking lead in child passenger safety

Installing a child restraint in your vehicle can be a nightmare, especially if you’ve never attempted to do it in the past. You may even be unsure that you’re using the correct restraint. You could always check with someone who knows about car seats, but where do you find someone with that knowledge?

The SGI claims centre in Swift Current now offers parents and caregivers the opportunity to have child car seats checked year round free of charge.

"Installing a child restraint is a complicated process. An individual examination by a trained educator is the best way to know your child is properly restrained, "says Shannon Ell, Supervisor of SGI’s Traffic Safety Promotion. "Now residents of Swift Current can have their child car seat checked year round, rather than waiting for a clinic."

Statistics show that half of children age eight and under are not properly restrained in vehicles. This is why SGI has worked with the Saskatchewan Safety Council and SGI CANADA brokers over the past few years to make child passenger safety a top priority for parents and caregivers.

Ell says: "The child restraint clinics we hold during our annual child restraint campaign have always been met with enthusiasm. We are pleased that we can now offer the necessary support year round to parents and caregivers who are concerned with their children’s safety when travelling."

Parents and caregivers in Swift Current can make an appointment to have their child restraint checked free of charge by trained claims centre staff. You may book an appointment to have your child restraint checked by calling 778-4900 or 1-800-667-7414.
