Kids Help Phone receives $32,000 from SGI CANADA
SGI CANADA today presented the proceeds from the 2000 Charity Classic to Kids Help Phone to help fund its initiatives in Saskatchewan. The cheque was for $32,000.
The eighth annual curling bonspiel raised funds for Kids Help Phone, which will be used to help Saskatchewan youth. Kids Help Phone provides free, professional counselling services to young people, 24-hours a day, every day of the year, in both English and French.
Around 10,000 curling fans attended the 2000 SGI CANADA Charity Classic over the Thanksgiving weekend.
"This year's Charity Classic is among the most successful ever," Crown Investments Corporation Minister, John Nilson said. "It featured 64 world- class men's teams competing for the right to advance to the Canadian Curling Trials, which will be held in Regina in December 2001. In addition, 16 of the top women's curling teams battled it out. The high profile and exceptional calibre of competition helped attract record crowds to this fantastic event to raise funds for Kids Help Phone and its initiatives in Saskatchewan."
"We're really pleased to get this kind of financial support," Kids Help Phone Provincial Vice Chair of Fundraising Richard Heroux said. "Over 20,500 calls handled by Kids Help Phone last year were from Saskatchewan.
"These calls came from 295 different communities throughout the province, so this money will go a long way toward ensuring we are able to continue offering this free, professional counselling services to Saskatchewan youth 24-hours a day."
The Charity Classic is organized and staffed by volunteers, and all operating revenue is raised through advertising and sponsorship from SGI CANADA brokers and business partners.
