SGI Wants You to Arrive Alive
SGI launched its new "Arrive Alive" traffic safety awareness campaign in Yorkton today. It's part of a corporate partnership SGI has established with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) and the Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA).
The "Arrive Alive" campaign will promote all of SGI's traffic safety messages at SJHL hockey games and local community rinks around the province. Those messages include the importance of using seat belts, taking care on the road in winter driving conditions, checking vehicle child restraints and staying sober behind the wheel. As well, SJHL players will act as youth ambassadors to take traffic safety messages into schools in their communities.
"This partnership with the SJHL and the SHA provides SGI with the opportunity to bring important traffic safety messages to a broad audience - people who watch and participate in hockey around the province," Crown Investments Corporation Minister John Nilson said.
The SHA 1999/2000 registration report indicates that 42,476 Saskatchewan residents played, coached, managed or officiated hockey during that season. As well, an estimated 400,000 people attend SJHL games across the province each season.
"The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased and proud to enter this partnership with SGI," SJHL President Wayne Kartusch said. "The 13 member teams virtually blanket the province at the grass roots level to spread the message of Arrive Alive. With over 400,000 fans attending our games, this message will reach a significant portion of the population. This, coupled with the partnership with the Saskatchewan Hockey Association, will certainly produce a win-win situation."
"The SHA is pleased to be in partnership with SGI in a program that will help educate people on the importance of driving safely to and from games during the winter season," SHA President Marcel Redekop said. "We appreciate the efforts of SGI to help us make the game more enjoyable and safer for our participants."
"Driving to and from games can become routine," Nilson said. "But it's important for everyone to remember that driving is not a sport. In a split second, a tragedy can occur. The goal of the ÔArrive Alive' campaign is to remind motorists of the importance of obeying the rules of the road, and staying aware behind the wheel. Our hope is this campaign will help to reduce the number of collisions, injuries and deaths on Saskatchewan roads."
