SGI Recommends Improvements to No Fault
SGI today made its official presentation to the independent committee reviewing the Personal Injury Protection Plan (PIPP), also commonly referred to as no- fault insurance. The crown put forward 44 recommendations where improvements can be made.
"The recommendations further the program's original goals and improve benefit levels in key areas to the point where Saskatchewan residents injured in crashes will receive the best injury benefits in the country," SGI President Larry Fogg said.
Over the past five years, SGI has tracked customer feedback and concerns and has consulted with care providers about how the program could better serve the needs of those injured in auto crashes. As a result of that feedback, SGI is putting forward recommendations for improvements to the program. They fall into three broad categories:
improving customer service;
addressing under- and over-compensation issues; and,
enhancing fairness.
Overall, implementing the recommendations would mean an increase of $4.2 million in injury costs annually. This represents 1.1 per cent of total claim costs.
"Since PIPP was introduced in Saskatchewan in 1995, it has accomplished its three major goals: to improve benefits for those injured in a motor vehicle crash; enhance fairness; and stabilize injury claim costs," Fogg said. "However, we recognize that no system is perfect. SGI is putting forward the 44 recommendations to improve PIPP - to make a good program even better."
