SGI Partners with Law Enforcement to Make Roads Safer
SGI has once again joined forces with law enforcement agencies in Saskatchewan to help make our province's roads safer.
SGI officials, along with representatives of various law enforcement agencies from across the province held a mandatory safety checkstop on Highway 1 on Wednesday, Sept. 22.
The checkstop was in effect for six hours and was located at the weigh scales near Beverley, approximately 10 kilometres west of Swift Current.
"The checkstop focused on seat belt and child restraint infractions, as well as on unsafe and unregistered vehicles," said Staff Sgt. Jimm Barr, Division Traffic Supervisor with the RCMP. "We were also looking for impaired and prohibited drivers."
"We hope this high-profile enforcement initiative will persuade more drivers to buckle up and will help make all roads in Saskatchewan safer for everyone," said Deputy Premier and Crown Investments Corporation Minister Dwain Lingenfelter.
"We want people to know that law enforcement personnel are out there actively enforcing our seat belt laws, as well as looking for unsafe vehicles and impaired drivers."
Law enforcement agencies involved in the safety checkstop included the RCMP, city police from Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Weyburn, Estevan, and Corman Park, the CN Police, the provincial Highway Transport Patrol, and the provincial Finance Revenue Division.
Lingenfelter said the checkstop is the latest example of how SGI and provincial law enforcement agencies are working together to help reduce accidents and save lives.
