KidSport Saskatchewan receives $32,000 from
SGI CANADA
SGI CANADA today presented the proceeds from the 1999 Charity Classic to KidSport Saskatchewan.
The seventh annual curling bonspiel raised $32,000 for KidSport. KidSport tries to ensure all children have the same opportunities to play sports, regardless of financial obstacles their families may be facing.
More than 9,000 curling fans attended the 1999 SGI CANADA Charity Classic over the Thanksgiving weekend.
"The 1999 Charity Classic was among the most successful ever," SGI CANADA President Larry Fogg said. "It featured 12 of the top women's curling teams and 32 world-class men's teams. All of this helped to draw record crowds to this fantastic event and helped to raise funds for KidSport."
The 2000 Charity Classic promises to be bigger than ever, as it has been named an Olympic qualifying spiel. Curling teams will earn points towards the 2002 Olympic trials.
"Becoming an Olympic qualifying event is really exciting for us," said Bernadette McIntyre, Charity Classic co-chair. "We're looking forward to all the action as 64 of Canada's top men's curling teams take to the ice at the Regina Agridome next Thanksgiving weekend."
The 2000 SGI CANADA Charity Classic will benefit the Kids Help Phone, Canada's only toll-free, national telephone counselling service for children and youth. The organization provides anonymous and confidential counselling, information and referral services in English and French, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
"We're really pleased to be able to support local charities like the Kids Help Phone and KidSport Saskatchewan," Fogg said. "It's incredible to realize that since 1993, the Charity Classic has raised more than $100,000 for Saskatchewan charities."
The Charity Classic is organized and staffed by volunteers, and all operating revenue is raised through advertising and sponsorship from SGI CANADA brokers and business partners.
